Gallery Michael Andrew Law is honored to present Law Cheuk Yui’s ONE NIGHT STAND with King and Blonde Bombshell Pop Up Exhibition. In this Open Studio Exhibition by Gallery Michael Andrew Law, Law makes a parody to the alleged meeting between Elvis and Marilyn that took place in the summer of 1960.
Contrary to the Photorealistic paintings earlier in Michael Andrew Law’s earlier career which tried to make painting looks more like a photograph , “Bad Paintings” intended to be more on the side of abstract , expressive and action painting ( Here referencing Jackson Pollack ) so in which image or realistic result not the first priority instead using painting as a gesture to showcase a story , the images just a side effects. Most of the “ Bad Paintings Series “ are painted in monochrome with transparent painting techniques on top of a prepared toned canvas , in which there were minimum to no colour mixing ( Avoiding mixing of different colour paint ) in the entire painting process , with the least cover up or retouching in the painting process to avoid losing “transparency” of the painting , each work either could completed within couple hours or would be destroyed .
The artist consider this series more of an mixture of Expressive Art, Abstract Art and Pop Art in which acting as a medium of social commentary for the uses of explores humanity subject matters such as Death, Sex, Self, History and Popular Cultures.

Faye Bradley was born and raised in Hong Kong before moving to the U.K. to study Art and Design BA (Hons) at the University of Leeds. She has always had a passion for the visual arts, and found comfort in drawing and painting scenes of her life. During her study at Leeds university, she began to use oil paint to produce large scale art pieces and composed a series of paintings, entitled “Dream Landscapes”. Dream Landscapes aims to create a sense of the intangible dream world which humans cannot acquire physically. With a deep interest in dreams and dreaming, Faye has studied the human behaviour through her Independent Study: Dissertation, which focused on the processes of dreaming and how artists are inspired and use this in their work. Her paintings transcend a luminous, surreal atmosphere, and aspire to portray the audience into a nostalgia and remembrance of a dream. Being able to showcase this through multiple large-scale (and smaller studies) paintings, allows the viewer to wander across the colours and shapes of each composition and get a sense of the feeling she wishes to evoke.
The processes used behind Faye’s paintings in Dream Landscapes, were inspired by the
memories of her previous holidays and moments of happiness- found through photographs. She used these photographs as memoirs and found nostalgia and comfort, when looking at these.
Using a selection of her best photography, she found sections of this to concentrate her
paintings on. To find the landscape composition, she chooses the most critical points of interest on each painting, particularly focusing on the curvature of the mountains and roads to create an “unreal” landscape. She derives much of inspiration from reknowned artists, David Hockney and Milton Avery. Both these artists display an exquisite way of working, using colour to express a vivid scene. Faye expresses her notion of dreaming through colour as well, using luminous, light washes of oil paint to embody a sense of faded memory- much like being in a dream.
The artist’s fascination in dreams was founded from her own experience in dreaming and how each one differs nightly- sometimes retraced but slightly different each time. She aims to recreate this through her work and translate the idea of dream imagery in painting Dream Landscapes series comprise of oil painting. This was a new technique for the artist, after using it only from three years ago. The fluidity and ability to create transparency through oil paints was a huge factor in determining her choice of using this medium. The importance of transparency was to focus on the dreamy atmosphere and help to enhance the dream experience for viewers.
Faye enjoys painting on large canvases because she feels this really helps to translate a message and allow her to freely paint across the page, without restrictions. She made her own frames for her canvases as well as some ready-made ones for the larger paintings. Compositions were tested through smaller-scale studies, before being painted on the larger canvases. She also created prints of the paintings in the Dream Landscape collection, in order to allow viewers to see the paintings from a different angle and size, which completely changes the tone of the image. Faye found that this brought out a new, exciting challenge to her work.
Currently, Faye is living in Hong Kong and will be moving to London in mid-October to further pursue her career in the visual arts.
Opening reception : 11,12 September 2018 6-8 pm

In this Open Studio Show, Law Cheuk-Yui presents works from Two New body of work where his signature painted portraits pays tribute to Hubert de Givench, whom was famous for designed wardrobe of breakfast at tiffany's for Audrey Hepburn which incorporate to the visions of photographer Bud Fraker, film director Blake Edwards and the charisma of Audrey Hepburn, these paintings capturing the mix of candour, melancholy, determination and ambition of such iconic images from the movie.
In these two new series, Law’s work explore forms of both abstract and figurative, through a unique combination of Contemporary Pop, Photo Paintings and Color Field. Rendering his subjects in a (Richter’s) photo-painting manner, each figure is then enveloped within a colorful swell of shapes, color and form.
Such surreal interventions are accomplished through the artist’s methodical process of mark-making. Utilizing a wide range of materials, Law’s mixed media approach creates a hypnotic tension between the familiar and the fantastical. Using Acrylic and Paint Markers as the solid foundation upon which Law’s figures manifest, oil paint and glitter are then layered upon the main subject in a more intuitive manner. These saturated patterns move around the figure, further highlighting various gestures or the occasional curious glance peering out from behind the colorful structures.

Hong Kong: Michael Andrew Law is pleased to present “Sanguine Collection” Laramie Lanclos second solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The artist will be present for an opening reception at the gallery on Tuesday, Feb 27th , from 6-8 PM.
For this collection Lanclos want to propose a centuries old drawing method of Conté Compressed Charcoal; the artist have revised and redeveloped the medium to obtain the aesthetical qualities of sanguine rock employing contemporary materials-Sanguine, The continuing discourse of beauty versus brutality that is recurrent in her work, sanguine from Italian sanguina, was so-called for its resemblance to dried blood. Lanclos began to use sanguine as a way to lay out under-paintings or for visual studies in life drawing, until she fell in love with it as a medium in its own merit.
The works in this collection comes from two different series ,'The Golden Age of Decay' that Lanclos begun as a collection of oils and carries the discourse of crumbling beauty in the contemporary age, which she worked a lot from the iper-sculpted body of professional actor and model Andrew Crayford (BBC, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Thor: The Dark World), who's Botticellian looks have been widely employed in art and renaissance TV documentaries. The second series 'Kabukichō Mon Amour' was inspired by Lanclos repeat visits to the Red Light District of Tokyo, where elegant ruins of a past that defuses to fade coexist beside the modern vulgarity of tacky signs and overly exposed sexual innuendo.
Laramie Lanclos is a UK based artist, graduated in BA Fine Art and specialized in oil painting. The eerie and dystopia has became the signature feature in her portraiture that has greatly distinguished her work from contemporary trends, as well as developing a very unique style which was readily noticeable from her very first expo.
Lanclos has been exhibiting her work in the UK solidly for a decade, and in recent years she has begun showing in Hong Kong.

Gallery Michael Andrew Law, announces his two-person show for the exhibition of the infamous street art revolution known as Banksy. The show which is tagged "December to Remember: A Love Letter T̶o̶ with Banksy" will witness the showcase of at least 40 of Michael’s reproduction of Banksy's incredible street art masterpieces. Attendees will also have the opportunity to see Micheal’s own private collection of new paintings. The art exhibition will be taking place from December 5 - December 8, 2017, at 3-D Fu Kar Court, 32 Fortress Hill Road, Hong Kong. Opening Reception is on Tuesday, December 5, 6-9 PM.
"I think Banksy would appreciate the idea and the effort. I created this show base on the philosophy of Banksy’s works since his works now often circulate within corridors of the rich and powerful. I find this ironic because most of the idea of his works was to mock the rich and the powerful, so I just go ahead and use my freedom as an artist to create this two-person show between Banksy and me," said Artist Michael Andrew Law.
The importance of Banksy as an art form
Banksy transformed the art world by presenting an illegal form of artwork in public places. The art is a combination of political satire and humor, delivered in a unique stenciling technique that has taken the UK and world by storm. Banksy offers an insightful and penetrative art graffiti that questions topical issues and provides bold expressions. The subject of Banksy’s art is usually anti-capitalism, anti-war, and anti-establishment, making it the perfect artistic expression for anyone with liberal consciousness to identify with.
December to Remember: A Love Letter T̶o̶ with Banksy is a non-commercial exhibition that comprises the reproduction of artwork by Banksy drawn from the gallery of a private collection. Michael Andrew Law desires to present a genuinely inspirational artwork exhibition, unlike the ones common in the high-end art world.

Michael Andrew Law:

Gallery Michael Andrew Law
Gallery Michael Andrew Law is delighted to present “ The Eerie & Dystopia ” , the first solo gallery exhibition in Hong Kong by Italian-English Artist Laramie Lanclos .
Laramie Lanclos is an UK based artist, graduated in BA Fine Art and specialized in oil painting.
The eerie and dystopia has became the signature feature in her portraiture that has greatly distinguished her work from contemporary trends, as well as developing a very unique style which was readily noticeable from her very first expo.
The inspiration behind Laramie’s work comes in the most unusual forms, staring the black stretched wires against the orange sunset of Queens at down, haunting panting dancers in the dim corridors of an disused building, or prowling paper lantern alleys of Tokyo on a summer night. She adopts contrast from everything, the juxtaposition of the modern to the traditional so alive in the Japanese urban landscape, a quality that reminds of DeChirico futuristic wastelands and mannequins, who equally elated and haunted her in childhood.
The poetically grotesque folklore of central northern Europe. The isolation of standing in the wilderness above the noise and city lights. She feels the essence of being is the driving discourse that shapes the aesthetic quality of her work, often omitting colour and lightness in favour of expression and mood.

Michael Andrew Law works resides around the power of famous images. Each work features photorealistic re-interpretation of the famous paintings, hand-painted glitter and gesso and many incorporate big fat Chinese calligraphy characters, often taken from Xizhi Wang’s works. Studio Michael Andrew Law is pleased to present the first "Am I one Death away from being rich? OPPV Part 1" by the artist.
In this series, Law is in dialogue with artists of the past, such as Da Vinci, Modigliani, Freud, and Manet, among others.
Michael Andrew Law’s interpretation of Van Gogh self-portrait from his What if ©Julian Schnabel goes Pop™ series are bright and in your face as soon as you lay eyes on them.
Referencing Dutch Post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh painted a self-portrait in oil on canvas in September 1889. The work, which may have been Van Gogh's last self-portrait, was painted shortly before he left Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in southern France. The painting Law referenced from is now at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
That self-portrait was one of about 30 van Gogh produced over a 10-year period, and these were an important part of his work as a painter; Van Gogh would paint himself because he often lacked the money to pay for models. He took the painting with him to Auvers-sur-Oise, near Paris, where he showed it to Dr Paul Gachet, who thought it was "absolutely fanatical".
Backed by a brilliant colour hand made glitter, are made up of a series of overlapping, differently brush strokes, splatters or drips, reconstructing a famous painting shining with glitter. All These artworks of this series belong to the same cultural whole.
The painterly style is playful and fun, and not the first time that artists have taken from popular culture and art history either to make a statement, or simple to have a good time.
Law, well known for his photorealism and pop art paintings, has added a twist to them here – instead of copying the representation of these famous images , Law has utilized these images to create a more dynamic picture.
These famous paintings represented in such expressive ways take on a joy of their own – they remind us of the easygoing nature of art and the simple pleasures that we took from it. What if ©Julian Schnabel goes Pop™ is a way to recapture that feeling in art.
Revisiting a process used earlier in his career, Law designed directly on the computer with the reproductions of these famous images that he collected over the years, then printed on paper and glued onto canvases of various sizes. Then rendered in glitter, thick and dripping paint that almost completely obscures the original references.
Due to the current restrictions concerning the CORONA-virus, this exhibition is limited to private viewing by appointment only, One additional guest is allowed with each reservation, 30-minute appointment for 1 party of up to 2 people, email us to reserve your spot.
Attention! Strictly NO WALK-INS allowed, Sorry.
Michelle + Michael Andrew Law and Urs Fischer ☃️Snowman Party

A snowman is an anthropomorphic snow sculpture often built in regions with sufficient snowfall. In many places, typical snowmen consist of three large snowballs of different sizes with some additional accoutrements for facial and other features. Due to the sculptability of snow, there is also a wide variety of other styles. Common accessories include branches for arms and a rudimentary smiley face, with a carrot used for a nose. Clothing, such as a hat or scarf, may be included. Low cost and availability are the common issues, since snowmen are usually abandoned to the elements once completed.
Artist couple Law Cheuk yui and Yu Ting yan (Michael & Michelle Law) curated a snowman party exhibition, showing 30 snowman installations and painting art, and Juxtaposition with Urs Fischer‘s newly created whimsical silkscreen print which depicts snowmen, each hand-drawn by the artist using an iPad, in scenes of humor and play.
